Born in Polokwane in South Africa in 1989, Sam moved to Yorkshire in 2001 to start secondary school. His enthusiasm for climbing covers everything from Deep Water Solos through to Alpine summits.

Best moments

  • Meeting Nelson Mandela in Bamako (Mali) in 1995
  • Going Deep Water soloing for the first time at Lulworth cove (UK)!
  • Watching England win the Rugby World cup on TV in 2003 with Johnny Wilkinson kicking the final drop goal to win!

Sam Hamer´s achievements include completing all of the “Top 50” climbs in the Rock Fax Eastern Grit guidebook, which featured routes such as “Beau Geste” (E7 6c) and “End of the Affair” (E8 6c); and other hard grit routes such as “Gaia” (E8 6c).
